Snapshot by Kaylee Leclerc

It was early afternoon and the sun was beaming down on us. The soft, warm wind was slowly blowing past us causing our hair to slightly move around our excited faces. The log beneath our feet was large and difficult to balance on. The lake in the background was swooshing with the wind. The fish slowly swimming in the frigid, blue water. My cousin, about two feet to the right of me, was kneeling down playing in the light golden sand. I was standing on my squishy, white flip flops looking back towards the camera. The sun beating on my dark blue shirt was starting to warm up my skin. My brother had one of his funny faces on, like always. The excitement in my aunt’s eyes was unforgettable. She was so happy! Her son not so much because of his aching pain the sun had caused him. His girlfriend had a look of enjoyment as she snapped the picture. You could tell she was trying to capture the whole surprise factor. My grandparents behind her were smiling as the picture was being taken as if they thought it was going to turn out to be a great picture, which it was!

The Blue Surpie! By Leticia Heath

Life is like a horror movie! It's sometimes based in darkness and sometimes in sunlight. It has its ghastly monster that never seems to die easily. It has its heroes and villains that sometimes never choose a side. But you must remember that they always end in the bad going bye-bye and the good coming smiling and saying “hi”.

Summer Vacation! Those two words sound like the ice cream truck music coming closer on a hot summer day. In fact it was a hot summer day a few weeks into my summer vacation. I had just come home from a nice vacation-in-a-vacation in Green River, Utah. I always long for Green River like I long for sweet dreams late at night. It had been great fun, but now we were back in Murray driving home in our PT Cruiser.

I was impatiently waiting for the air conditioning to work when a bright red light appeared on the dash board. I remembered every movie I had seen in outer space remembering when the red lights flash and the space ship was sent crashing to earth. I could tell we were in trouble and I closed my book. My grandmother groaned and turned the car around.

We arrived at the car shop the revolting stench of oil and sweat filled my nose causing me to take a deep breath and hold it. The car person asked us if we wanted a lift home in the shuttle but we refused saying we didn't want to wait and that there was a train station not far.

We walked out of the shop and into the sunlight that was so hot it melted us onto the sidewalk. We walked, talked, and stopped at a 7-11 to grab a drink then began to walk again. I slurped my slurpie gleefully the sour flavor beating my taste buds up. Right there and then is when it happened. I was drinking my slurpie minding my own business listening to my grandmother talk and seeing the crosswalk sign flashing white with a stick figure walking. I began to walk across the road like the it directed my shoes slipping off my feet and then I heard my grandmother scream. I instinctively looked over at her seeing her run back to the sidewalk trying to drag me with her. I noticed the car heading towards me and to this very day I can still remember the color and make: a blue sports car from Ford. I managed to walk back but I seemed to be in slow motion. I felt like my life was a horror movie right then but my point of view seemed like it wasn't in me but a person seating in a theater eating popcorn and drinking a diet coke and watching as a car approached a girl happily sipping her slurpie her grandmother pulling her back.

The car stopped and I was back in myself looking down at my foot and hearing my grandmother scream at the lady who had just ran over my foot. I could see the flesh of my foot bruising a black line running from my toes upward. I didn't cry even though I felt like I was going to.

"I'm sorry! Are you alright? I'm a nurse," the women said.

A nurse! Hah, I was lucky! She examined my foot saying that it wasn't broken but bruised up pretty bad. I stood there like a corpse I was still so confused my mind saying my foot was hurt and that I should be in pain, but it didn't come. I took another slip of my slurpie watching as my grandmother talked to the lady shock still carved into her face. The lady drove us to the train station where we rode until we got home.

When we arrived my grandmother took me downstairs letting me sit on the couch. That's when the pain and realization hit. My foot had been run over! You might be laughing saying that’s like a finger prick compared to a hand being cut off. But what if it hadn't been just my foot? What if I had been in the way my whole body? What would have happened? And where did my slurpie go? So many questions so little time as they say.

From that day on I have compared life to a horror movie. But there is one thing you should always remember: that at the end of the horror movie the guy gets the girl (dido), the bad guy is always relinquished, and the sun is arriving over the mountains telling you that you’re still alive to face the rest of the bad things in the world. They always, or usually, end well.

PS:
Cars are more dangerous then you think so look both ways before you cross the road. I have a new respect for them!

metaphor madness by: Josh Rasmussen

Life is a video game. You start off on the X-box. You go through trials and learn lessons and upgrade to and X-bow 360 and so on and so forth. But all the time you are always controlling the game there has to be people playing with you so you can win and succeed the people that help you are friends and family.
The first sports I did were skiing, gymnastics, baseball, basketball soccer, swimming. (That’s like some of the systems) I started swimming lessons at a lady’s house when I was 5 years old. (First games on this system) I ended up ginishi8ng lessons at the rec. center. (After a got good at the other game I moved on the other games like this one) I did not want to go into competition with swimming. Skiing started off with lessons at school when I was in 1st grade in park city. (New system) later, I started skiing in big and little cottonwood canyons. I liked it a lot and continued ever since. (Got a rely fun games that never gets tiring) right now I ski black diamonds, which is a hard route in skiing. (Getting better at the game) I started gymnastics in park city. (Getting a cheep system that crashed little while after I got it) I liked it that was it. I started baseball when I was 6 years old. (Now system) I played it for a couple of years. Liked it, but after a while I realized my team sucked. (Getting a game that know one would help me in) I tried basketball for one year. I sucked at that. (Trying a new game but sari no) I started soccer when I was 5 in rec. I played it for 2 or 3 years. (When I first got one of the best systems I have ever had) My mom heard about Murray max competition team. ( a cool new game) the next year, I tried out for it. I got in. (found I was good at it) I played for 2 years. Then my coach didn’t like that parents yelling at him all the time. So, he moved to blue knights. I liked the coach so I moved with him. I have been with blue knights ever since. When I started competition soccer, l played all year around. During the winter, I played futsal. (Another cool Game the I love dearly) it’s like indoor soccer, but it’s on a smaller field and you can’t bounce the ball off the walls. You only have three seconds to do any thing.
I wouldn’t be wearing some of the jackets id do today if I didn’t play soccer. I wouldn’t be able to walk as long of distances as I don’t I don’t get side ache. I’m fit. I make decisions fast. Decisions about what I am going to do, whether I like something or not, where I’m going. If I didn’t get into soccer, I would not have known my friends that are in soccer now.

Life is like a book. Life is like a book because sometimes you can’t always tell what’s going to happen; sometimes you can. One day could be happy and exciting then the next day could be the worst day ever. Be open to everything because the cover dose not always tell the story. So if you see a good book give it a try the next day it might just be your best friend.♥

♥OK so in about third grade I met two really good friends. Actually one of them lived less than a block away from me. We went to the same elementary school and we know are in Jr high. We had the same teacher in third grade and fifth grade, that’s just Harli. Courtney on the other hand, we have been friends that long as well, we had third grade and fourth grade together. Sure we had fights but that was our fault for closing the book. But sure enough we opened it back up and got over it. That’s just how it goes though one day we were best buds the next day we wanted nothing to do with one another. But that's the way friends are! Right?♥

♥But if I had not been friends with them I would not have half the fun I have now, I’m very glad to have the friends I have. Well sure I would have more friends but I think you get my point.
But sad to say eventually the book ends and you find a new book but that’s just the way the page turns. But the next book you choose may even be better! Always think on the positive side. The book may have unbearable moments but sure enough we get over them!Like that! Books describe life so well we all have up’s and down’s but we all get right back up again.♥

Good or Bad By: Melissa Gabourie

Life is like a maze, you can get stuck but then later you get out again. There are many ways in and many ways out. You get out of the maze then you get right back in again. There is so many ways to get stuck in life you went the wrong way but you don’t know where you went the wrong way so you’re stuck. In good times you can find your way easy but other times it can be so difficult that it seams you have gone every way possible.

When I was 6 we had a fire it burnt our house down but everyone got out and we had insurants. Were all ok but about a month later my mom and dad broke up. I was devastated I cried for a year after that trying to get them back together. I gave up trying to get them back together but I never left hope. After 13 years of seeing mom during the week and dad during the weekend we decided to change it but it was hard but we did it so now we live with dad during the week and mom during the weekend.

When I was 9 my mom had twins with my step dad Bryan one was named Samantha Kae Larsen because they liked her first name her middle name is mom’s middle name too. The other one was named Bryanna Nicole Larsen they named her Bryanna (Brianna) because she is the first one Bryan held. I was so happy it was sweet.

Point in my life By Curtis Romero

When I was about 11 my grandma died and I was so sad. It reminds me that nothing gold is meant to last like on outsiders. They were looking at the sky and it was goldish. Then they said that why can’t it be like that all the time. The other one said that nothing gold is meant to last.
Life is like a pair of saggy pants. Sometimes they fall so you need to pull them back up. But sometimes you don’t and you lose a grip on them and they just fall. And sometimes life support is like a belt. But sometimes it breaks and the pants just fall. But when you find the right belt like the right cure it works for a while. But sooner or later the belt wont work anymore and the pants fall.
Life is also like a lollypop. Some peoples lollypop is broken. Some are smaller then others. Some people eat them faster then others but sooner or later every loll pop gets eaten. Maybe not by you it could be a robber that comes up to you with a gun and eats your lollypop. Eating other peoples lollypop is very bad, it is considered murder depending on what lollypop you are talking about.
Life is also like a sandwich. You build it up and up but eventually your going to get hungry and it will get eaten. But sometimes you don’t have much of a sandwich as you don’t have much of a life and you need to build it up. But things can happen to it and you will die because if this sandwich called peanut butter and life sandwich. Some people will drive when there drunk or something like that. So that means they are hungry for disaster. So maybe they will nibble on your sandwich or eat the whole thing. You never know how hungry they are. Some people are hungry because of things that happen in there life. So they eat there own sandwich and die. But there is a cure for this, its called a diet. So remember if you are going to be stupid keep it to yourself do not bring it to all of us that have not even done anything. We are just minding our owe business so don’t come over here and eat our sandwich.

Goodbye Poem by Kaylee Leclerc

I never had the chance to say goodbye,
Although I’m pretty sure you know why.

I never spent much time with you,
But you always knew the right thing to do.

This sickness ended your life so quick,
You were gone before the clock could tick.

I remember standing by your bed,
Waiting for the moment we’d all dread.

Despite the pain you looked so happy,
But of course you knew the time was crappy.

You closed your eyes as if to sleep,
And soon enough we’d start to weep.

That moment was much to sad,
Because no one there, of course, was glad.

The funeral was the hardest part,
For it caused so many tears so start.

And now you’re with your wife I hope,
Learning to have fun and cope.

We miss you so much everyday,
To bad things turned out this way.
