Snapshot~Ashlyn Stackhouse

Summer. Hot, fun and full of events. I had just come to Salt Lake for 2 weeks to spend with my Dad, and I couldn’t wait to see my family. It was a perfect day to go camping, warm but not too hot. My cousins had just come over from Virginia and I hadn’t seen them in a year, but it felt like a billion years! Driving up Little Cottonwood Canyon filled my stomach with butterflies as my favorite song filled my ears. The scenery was splashed with green, Gray, and White; the snow had not melted all the way. I stepped out of the car and felt the hot sun and smelt the burning wood from the camp fires. Seeing my cousins, I ran over to them and attacked them with a hug. We laughed and started talking and walking over to my Dad and Grandpa who had started to grill the hamburgers. Stealing some of the food and ran over into the woods, deciding to go down to where the river was. Walking slowly down the trails, taking in every bit of the fresh air we could. Once we got down to the river that was full of rushing water, we decided to make plant boats and race them down the river. Looking for the right leaf for my boat made me want to wonder off for a second. Walking though all the green with some sunlight sneaking through the trees. Finding the perfect leaf I went back to where my cousins were hanging out. They had already started to make their boats but I had to find a stick still. Picking up a random stick I jammed it into the leaf and went to the side of the river. “1, 2, 3…..GO!” my cousin yelled, we let go of the boats and watched them head down the river. Some getting destroyed by the strong currents, including mine. We all laughed and joked around, cupping our hands and having a water fight with the cold river water.

When we walked back up from the river and found one of my other cousins, who just gotten there, was dancing on the picnic table to a disco song. I just shook my head and thought how was I related to these people. Dinner was ready and smelt like heaven. Hamburgers, salad, chips, hotdogs, coke and anything else that you can think of was sitting at the table. We all started to dig in, makings big hamburgers with everything on them. I started to make fun of my cousin for putting chips on his hamburger, I told him that chips are a side and not suppose to be on his hamburger, he just shook me off and continued with his weird idea.

Once we were done eating it started to get dark, but we still wanted to play around. There was all these rocks and boulders in a huge pile so Cydney, Emily, Maddie and Me wanted to go lay on the rocks or just hang out on them. We were talking about how much we love camping, the smell, the colors of the trees and the look of the mountains. Our Grandma came over with a camera and wanted a picture of us. When she told us to smile we all did a silly face but our grandma wanted s nice picture so she told us to be serious, but right when she took the picture we all made silly faces again. After that she was mad at us, but we had fun.

Snapshot moment~Laura Isaacson

The people in my photograph is my big sister Kelly, she is sixteen years old and already goes to college at the community college on Redwood Road. I took the photograph for my sister, It was Winter, but a very warm day. Kelly, my best friend Mary, and I decide to go to the park one Sunday after noon. We went and played tag with us three and four of my cousins, (It was really fun) after about two hours we left to go home. Like I said it was a very warm day so if you played tag you would probably get really hot so we decided to walk to seven eleven and get a slurpee.
It took along time, as we walked home with no coats or jackets and a slurpee in our hand. It started to get really cold. My fingers began to freeze up and my face started to turn red. I was really like way cold. I looked at my sister and she was like frozen she was like purple and she looked even colder then I did, I kept wishing so much that we just brought our coats. I felt like I was going to freeze and I didn’t know what to do because I didn’t want to throw my slurpee away because I just bought it and I love them.
I started to wonder if ii should just throw it away, I was thinking for a really long time and right as I was about ready to just go throw it away, I looked ahead of me and I was just three houses away from my house. I was really happy and decided I should just keep it and knot throw it away. Then I looked at my Friend Mary and she didn’t look cold at all, I looked at her slurpee and she didn’t eat any of it and she had paper tall’s around her slurpee. I thought oh I wish I thought of that (Mary always has good Ideas on just about anything) We finally got home.
I got my moms camera and started playing with it. I walked in my sister’s room and her tongue was red from the slurpee she got. I told her and she was like “Oh my heck, Its so cute, I love colorful tongues” So she took the camera and started taking like a million photos of her red tongue that she loved. After like an hour she was still talking all about her red tongue. She even described exactly how it felt to have a red tongue.
She showed me her tongue and I was like WOW! It was as Red as a tomato I looked at mine and it was even better then hers. So I kept eating my slurpee and it was getting redder every time, then I started eating a different color of slurpee and it started turning black. It looked awesome, I loved it. At the end I was so glad that I didn’t throw it away because then we wouldn’t have this Awesome! Picture.

Snapshot Moment by: Tyler Foss

Tyler Foss Snapshot moment
It was the Dallas Cowboy who happen to be my favorite team playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was the most legendary game of the year the Superbowl. I could feel my heart racing there was so much noise but I could not hear any of it . It was as if the world stood still and I could only focus on the game. I could only feel two things the coldness of my Gatorade and the vibrations from all the people screaming. They were about to hike the ball and everything went silent there was no noise except the sweat coming of the players.

Just a couple of hours earlier the two teams were coming on to the field to play one of the biggest games in their entire life. Each person was cheering for the team hoping they would be the champions for the year. Finally the game had started as the two teams got ready then the ball was kicked off and people screamed it was a thunderous scream through the stadium. Everybody was ready to see a amazing game of football I felt like I was about to go deaf. It was like a nonstop battle between the two teams. I felt as if I was in a roman coliseum waiting for two gladiators to fight. Neither team was willing to give up yardage on the field they both wanted to score so bad. Every team used all of the strategies and secret weapons. But the other team would have a counter play and bring it back. The suspense of who was going to win was tearing me up inside I felt like I was being eaten alive by a swarm of giant beetles.

I had to go pee but my legs would not let me get up and go to the bathroom. It was like I was in a trance I could not think the only thing that was on my mind was the game. My favorite player was really doing good his name was Emmit Smith was running the ball like crazy he is an unstoppable force it took at least two people to take him down. He was stiff arming everyone it was like he was impossible to stop. Troy Aikman knew were to throw the ball who to give the ball to and when to run he knew how to do his job. Together they were unstoppable nobody could keep track of were Aikman was going to throw it and nobody could keep Emmit from getting a first down or even more.

It was the final quarter as the teams lined and up got ready for the hike the crowd went quiet. It was the cowboys ball they lined up Troy Aikman was ready to have the ball handed to him They were down by one field goal but everybody knew they were not going to go for the tie. They hiked the ball and as everybody thought Aikman was going to go for a long pass but he threw a short pass to Emmit and he ran it in for a 10 yard touchdown. The crowd went wild the cowboys won and I could finally go pee.

This picture shows me an athletic doing that can change this sport forever. You can just imagine the enjoyment of basking in the magnificent glory. You can tell this is an important part of history as the crowd cheers and pulls out any camera mediocre are high tech they want a piece of what is happening. You can tell the respect the man has, just by the sound, the crowd roars for the alarming trepidation. You can feel your heart thrashing and pounding for him, your hands slowly sweats in fear of falling and losing your life.

When I look at this picture I think of what happened before the jump. I picture a man giving autographs to his fans just in case of if he live or die, I think of him and his anxiety and worry looking up at the sunburst sky wondering if there will be a tomorrow.

When I look at this picture I like to think of what would happen after the jump I think of a successful young man scoring another point to impress his fan. If you look at this picture without the man there you would think it is impossible but as you look down the ramp you do not want to go your whole body will quiver in fear the end of your life, and your life passes by fast as if it was a dream. It seems fast but lasts along time.

Looking at the fans point of view you would think about saying stop being a chicken and push. Imagine if you were him under all that pressure doing something for impatient eager fans. Also think about his family trying to tell him it is not worth risking life, His mom watching the event regretfully there is not much to say because every mother is worried for her son risking her life.
Think of the Chinese men saying what an idiot he thinks he can make it but yet china is not to fond of this sport they hardly know what it is.

If I was as good as this man I would have to try I would hate to set all that up for a wimp that is to chicken to try anything. You can tell the dedication how the man took there time to set this up in such a random place. It is like he is a king when he tells his pauper to dance he will dance tell him to fetch he will fetch.

Snapshot Moment By: Kylee Kieffer

Snap Shot!

Before this photo:

Kylee:" Millie lets go walk around"

Millie: " OK, lets get ready"

Me and my Friend Camille were at home waiting for another friend. We both got ready and did each others hair and make up. We looked fabulous. We started too walk down he windy road and stopped as we started to take pictures. I was very angry with the wind that day because I had like thee straightest hair ever and it looked really cute. The wind of course had messed that up. I had to laugh though because the whole thing was totally hilarious. My head turned toward Camille and I took my phone out and pressed the button. Snap! I took it. The picture was amazing. We looked great and the ruff wind blowing actually made it look better. The other great thing about it, is that we matched. I had a bright white tank on and she had a midnight black one. I had a ruffled black over thing and she had a long white shirt on. The whole time we were walking we talked about how funny it was that we accidentally matched. The other amazing thing was is my Hair's brilliant blonde, hers is like shadow black. We looked like twinners! After this we went to Beans & Brews and got frozen mocha's. This was a GIANT mistake. We went to toys R Us and I ran into a poll and spilt the coffee all
over every where. It was even on me! I booked it out of the store as fast as I could run on my short little legs. I ran all the way home. When I got home I was mad. I had coffee all down my Shivering body. I changed my clothes and got ready too get picked up in the bright red Camaro too have a extremely fun time at Sassie's that night. We had awesome plans. The Camero got there and picked us up. I sat in the car at waited for the bofing ride to beover. This day was the bomb!!! I could have gone with out the coffee spill, but other than that I really enjoyed it!

Snapshot Moment By Chelsee Robertson

The people that are in this picture with me are my 3 cousins and their names are Colten who is the one with the como hat on and the glasses, Ethen is the one with the blue hood on, and then there is Gabe who is the one that has no hood on, and then there is me with the in the back behind my cousin Gabe. The person who toke the picture was my grandpa his name is Harold. This picture was that we were down fishing and we had just got done fishing and we were just hanging on the gate that lead to the place to fish. This picture was taking in February some time and it was really cold and then again it was also hot. The water was like a freezer the was blowing up on your face. And the mountains there were very pretty to look at from where we were down in Vernon Utah. And then after that we went sit seeing to another fishing place that was on the way back home that we went to and that we caught nothing while we were there fishing.
Most people would think that I am crazy for going fishing with my uncle bud, and my grandpa, Colten, Ethen, and last but not least Gabe but it is really fun to do and I think that everyone can fish. But like me I don’t like to touch the fish they are slimy and really gross. And I also can’t eat the fish because I can’t have anything like sea fish. There all kinds of different fishes all over and some of there names are trout, catfish, salmon, rainbow, bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, brown trout, lake trout, yellow perch, walleye, brook trout, striped bass, cutthroats trout, channel catfish, crappie, black crappie, green sunfish, white crappie, tiger musky ,northern pike, flatheaded catfish, Atlantic salmon, sauger, and a burbot and that is just most of them there are many more and different species to be found still. And I do not like to touch the fish at all or even eat the fish. But I will do anything else besides that.
And that most of the fish are really neat to look at and they are really cool. Like the smallmouth bass there mouths are large. And then the largemouth bass’s mouth is small. And that is just different and it sounds like the smallmouth bass would have a small mouth. And that also that the largemouth bass would have a large mouth. And that the rainbow fish is like a rainbow in the sky it’s like the sky is in the water of the reflection. And we also go fishing in a place called Wyoming manila and the lake there is 91 miles long and it is really big and there are a lot of canyons there to look at and a lot of different kinds of animals like prairie dogs, antelope, deer, muse, coyote, bunnies, and rattle snakes there are scary. And the cliffs there are 1,500 feet high. And I recommend people to go there and check it out it is really pretty there and anyone would like it there are a lot of different things to do while you are there. And that is why I like fishing so much in different places.

All I could hear as I was climbing up a rock was my heart pounding a thousand beats a minute. It felt as though my heart was going to burst out of my heart because I was so petrified that I was going to fall off the rock and into the river before my mother could even take the picture. I didn’t even notice the small children fishing in the river beneath me; I didn’t notice the small breeze blowing that was making the trees around me sway. All I could pay attention to was my heart beating in my ears and trying to remember how to breathe, so I wouldn’t pass out and be the girl on the news who passed out while climbing an average size rock.
This all started a couple minutes before when my dad suggested we climb up the rock and take a picture before we left Provo Canyon to go back home. I played a long on his little game thinking he was joking because he knows very well that I’m afraid of heights. So I said sure, we should climb that rock that’s beside the river and take a picture so we can remember this day. So my dad took the camera and gave it to my mom and told her to take the picture and he started walking towards the rock. At that moment I realized he was very serious about climbing the rock and taking a picture.
Even though I know very well I’m afraid of heights I wanted to climb the rock and take a picture because I wanted to do something that was outside my comfort zone.
I wanted to try something I knew I was never going to do again, something I could look back one day and say WOW! I can’t believe I did that. I’m the kind of person who never does anything crazy and all my friends and family know that. I guess the real reason why I decided to climb the rock was so I could prove to everybody that I could do something out of my comfort zone. And to prove to myself that even though you try something new or you’re afraid to overcome your fear in the end it’s worth it because you feel proud for doing it and everything worked out in the end.
After my mom took the picture of me and my dad on the rock I didn’t want to get off anymore. Not because I wasn’t scared because I was but I was afraid I was going to fall off while trying to walk back down because there was a lot of small rocks which made it very slippery. My dad convinced me that I wasn’t going to fall and that I could not stay up there all day so I finally came down. I was so glad to be back on the ground, I felt like I could finally breathe again! A few minutes later after I got on the ground I could not believe I had overcome my fear, I was so proud of myself for doing it. Since I knew I was safe I realized that the view was actually very beautiful and calming, I just wish I would have admired it more when I was up there instead of worrying about falling.

I’m standing in the end zone with no one on me, staring up at the star lit sky at the football floating in the air. Three... two…there was to time on the clock as the game was coming to an end. One touch down would have the colts an astounding victory.

Rewind. Two hours prior.

“Welcome to Colts Stadium on this beautiful evening to watch the Cottonwood Colts match up against East Leopards” said the announcer. “And here we go.”

The opening kickoff signified the start of the game and the fans were screaming in excitement as if it were the super bowl. Nerves ran up my back as I watched the kickoff and heard the screams from the sidelines waiting for my chance on the field. The Colts received the ball with a return to the fourty and the offense was set for the field. As I made my way into the huddle, being attentive as I listen for the play, we broke and set the immovable line. The cadence was yelled by the paramount quarter back ready to try his best to lead the Colts to an astonishing victory.

At the end of the first half the Colts were down by a touchdown as they were hanging their heads heading into the locker room. The coach noticed this and took it into matter. As he came into the locker room he catapulted a chair across the room as it collapsed against the wall. Every players head was up now looking front and center at the coach. After a hope lifting pep talk the team ran out of the locker room more energized and focused on their goal to win than ever before.
The fans added in too. There was an uproar from the stands as the team entered the field getting them even more ready for the rest of the game to come. The Leopards had control of the ball at the start of the second half having a fourteen yard, six play drive, but the triumphant Colts came up with an imposing stop. Then regaining control of the ball the Colts took no time to put points on the board. After a painful first half the colts had wrangled back to tie the game.

With the fourth quarter just ready to begin the score was still tied, now bringing pressure to both teams. The quarter wore on and so did the players who were in it to grudge it out to the very end. It was now the closing two minutes of the game with the score still tied with the Colts with the ball on their own twenty yard line. Now, this moment is what every team practices for, a chance for victory. This possession of downs took the colts all the way to their opponent’s fifteen yard line with the clock winding down. A timeout was hurried and called with three seconds on the clock and the winning play was now being drawn up on the sideline. The huddle was now rejoined with the quarterback and I right in the middle. The final play was set to begin as the quarterback again called out the cadence.
“SET… HIT!” he called. And here we go.
I ran my route to the corner of the end zone and...

Present time.

I’m standing in the end zone with no one on me, staring up at the star lit sky at the football floating in the air. Three... two…there was to time on the clock as the game was coming to an end. One touch down would have the colts an astounding victory.

Snapshot Moment by Meghan Dow

"Eep!" someone shrieks in excitement. Today is the day when we finally get our costumes. For 2 1/2 months we had been rehearsing and the costumes meant so much more than just something to wear. They were beautiful rewards for all of our hard work. "They're gorgeous," Brooklyn says from the front of the line. I try to catch a glance by leaning forward, but with no luck, I am just too far back in the line. The line moves up one person, and then two, butterflies explode from my stomach. I am so excited! Moments tick by, each one seeming to pass much slower than the last. I see other cast members dancing around in their prizes. I become even more excited, so excited that, "Eep!" I have become one of the happy shriekers.
-
The moment is finally here when the person in front of me receives their beautiful dress. Now it's my turn. "Meghan, hmmm let's see. Ah, here we are!" Leslie says as she sorts through all of the silk dresses. She hands me my dress and I am in awe at its beauty. The silk tickles the tips of my fingers as well as its vibrant red color tickles my mind, is it really mine? I tell myself that it is and skip off with a quick "Thank you!" to Leslie. As soon as I am out of the way I do not waste a moment, I slip on my kimono, not even bothering to take off my jacket first. As soon as it's on I begin to dance around in it, but soon I find myself bumping into someone. At first I am angry that someone would disrupt my dance, but then I realize that it is my friend Amanda and we begin dancing around together in our costumes. We finally stop when we see someone pulling out their phone to take a picture of their own costume. "Ooh! Take a picture of me please," Amanda asks excitedly as I pull my phone out of my bag. "Alright," I answer and just as I'm about to take the picture Silvana sees Amanda posing. "Me too!" she shouts as if she's across the room rather than right next to us. "Alright,” and I scoot back a few feet so that I may fit both of them in the picture. Amanda, dramatically, looks off into the distance and Silvana does the same, but right at the last second as my phone says, "Cheese!" she pulls a sassy smile. "Tada!" I say as I show them the picture. I was proud of my work and thought that it was a pretty good picture, but you know girls. Amanda and Silvana threatened to delete it for reasons I couldn't understand. After a chase through the auditorium and their attempt to corner me, I ended up hiding my phone in my backpack.
-
Just the other day I was going through my pictures with Amanda and this one came up. She told me it was an awesome picture. I wonder if she remembers how much she disliked it.
