The Disaster Vacation
It was spring break. Our family had nowhere to go and nothing to do. Dad thought that it would be great to drive to
We set off on our “adventure” if that’s what you want to call it. We hadn’t even been 30 minutes into the trip when the kids had already become hungry. Mom had packed extra snacks in the back, but those didn’t last long with four hungry kids who had forgotten to eat lunch. We were just getting on to the main highway when dad, who was driving, made a wrong turn that set us 1 hour behind. We were all getting grumpy and starving so we decided to stop for dinner, putting us even more behind. Nobody liked the dinner, and it was hard to eat while a huge moose head is staring straight down at you (so nobody liked the decorations in the restaurant either.) We all climbed back into the car and now it was already 8:30 at night, we still had about 2 or 3 hours to go.
While everything had almost calmed down disaster hit, we were driving on a dirt road sort of close to the edge of a hill, one false turn from the car and we would go tumbling. We were driving extra slow which made it even more frustrating, then all of the sudden mom yells “deer” dad thought she was calling him and not warning him about the animal right in front of our car. We all finally noticed what our Mom was trying to say and then everyone in the car yelled “deer!” Dad stopped just in time and was 1 foot away from hitting this creature. We were driving even slower now and finally got on to actual road when our dad pulled into the hotel. We pull up to get our key when our dad comes to the car and pulled out of the hotel parking lot, we asked our dad what was going on and he said “ we’ve got the wrong hotel, ours is 30 minutes away.” With more groans and tears of just wanting to get out of this car we FINALLY arrived at our hotel which was more of a rejected building than anything. Our parents shared one bed while 4 kids slept on the other.
We were all grumpy and wanting to go to bed at 11:30 at night when our dad really wanted to “lighten” the mood he came up with the idea of going bowling. We all finally agreed and loaded into the car one last time. So we went bowling at midnight. We all had an amazing time and were much happier than before. The next days were so boring we left 3 days earlier! The trip wasn’t that great but we still made great memories!
