Home Sweet Home

By: Veronica Martindale

My most remembered memory would be when I first moved into my new house about 4 years ago…

We had been living in a small duplex with two rooms and my brother and I had to share a room. My mom and step dad decided that we needed a bigger home, and expecting a new baby around December.

We looked and looked when we finally found a great house it was the perfect size and had three bedrooms upstairs and one down. It had a giant backyard overlooking the city. It was an older house and it was in great shape, it was a great size and we all could have our own bedroom. We knew that this was our dream house. Or thought…..

We made an offer and hoped for the best. The people called and told us that someone else had made a better offer and sold it to them.

No one spoke for a while then my mom said, “I guess that house wasn’t meant for us.” We all agreed and kept looking for even better house. Months went by one after another no luck found.
My mom had high expectations, such as it had to have sidewalks at least enough bedrooms for all of us, two or more bathrooms, and a big backyard.

Then one day our real estate agent called us and told us that we should go look at this house. We planned a day to go look and it was the best house we had seen so far!

We took the tour and it had a pretty big kitchen with a living room connected to it. Then there were three bedrooms, the master bed room had a bathroom connected to it and another bathroom in the hallway. Then there were two bedrooms, a bathroom, a family room, a laundry room, and as we call it a craft room downstairs in the house. The backyard was the best! Once you walked out of the sliding glass door there was a porch with three stairs leading down to the large patio. There was a TON of space for gardens with two giant trees giving enough shade for the yard.

We loved the house and absolutely knew this was it! So we made an offer and hoped even more than before. We waited for weeks hoping that the call would be for the house and hoping that it was good news. Then they called one day and said that we could buy the house!

We wanted to move in as soon as possible so the closest day to move in was Oct. 31 Halloween! Then my brother and I found out that it was our dad’s weekend to pick us up to go to his house. So my brother and I packed all of our things and headed to our dad’s house. Then I realized that we didn’t have to help move!

We had a great time at our dad’s house, came home to our new house! I ran into my bedroom and saw the new purple bedspread with hearts that my grandma had bought me for my room! We unpacked the rest of the day. Then came night and I got ready for bed and fell asleep in my own room.
