By Makay MillerAs long as I can remember every summer we would go down to good old-fun-entertaining, Hennery’s Lake. It’s always been tradition, and this is how it all started.
When my dad grew up as a child he could not always find comfort with his own family, he grew up seeing his brother getting drunk and family fights and so on, but he did love his family. So he decided to seek comfort, in seeking a good family atmosphere, so he always spent his time with his friend Todd and his family. It was always peaceful there and coincidently there family was LDS. My dad spent as much time with them as possible and Todd’s family grew up with my dad as a brother-part of the family- and son.
My dad tells me that he went to Hennery’s lake with Todd’s family as long as he can remember. So naturally when my dad and Todd got married both the family’s and children grew up together going to Hennery’s lake. It seemed almost like fate when all the kid were the same age. But sadly we do not live close to them so Hennery’s lake is all the time that we usually get together.
Hennery’s lake is located about seven hours away almost in the middle of nowhere but feels like home to all the rest of us. We camp in an old-yellow grass- “RV park”; luckily there is a nice small building where there are bathrooms and nice showers with heated water. We stay there for about five days playing card games, talking and eating in this peaceful place.
The best part is waking up in the morning from a good night sleep and getting dressed and going outside. You can always here the birds sing but almost as if it’s just a background sound affect. The temperature is perfect with a soft wind that flows across you face and skin with a pleasure of its own. The smell is incredible the smell of fresh air with a scent of “comfort”… It’s very reassuring.
The food we eat almost speaks for its self. Almost every morning I wake up to fresh scones, soaked with melted butter with a hint of honey, and lots of bacon. The launch can consist of anything to everything from sandwiches or left over scones, this allows room for dinner. Every night we go into town to have dinner. The town consists of malls and restaurants and an IMAX theater. My favorite restaurant is Pete’s Pizza; my favorite thing to get there is there creamy, milky and almost addicting fettuccini with a little parmesan cheese. So between my favorite foods to the best company you can get and a very relaxing time everything couldn’t be more,
Perfect.
